Blood Drive Association Blood Drive Volunteer
When: May 13-16, 2013 from 11am-4pm
Where: MU Ballroom
Description: Volunteers are needed to welcome, escort, and assist donors. If you do not want to work near donors, there are many opportunities to volunteer in the front (away from the donors).
We recommend scheduling an appointment in advance if you want to DONATE blood at the drive. To sign up call (503) 779-1266 or go online to www.redcrossblood.org sponsor code OSU.
Every day, area hospitals are filled with cancer and surgery patients, premature babies, accident victims and other ill and injured people who need transfusions to live. Blood cannot be manufactured, it can only come from donors and because all blood and blood products are perishable, the supply must be constantly replenished.
Requirements: Please visit this page on the Red Cross website to view donor requirements. Closed toed shoes are required to volunteer near the donors.

Linus Pauling Healthy Youth Program Garden Work Party
When: Friday, May 17 from 2:00-4:00 PM
Where: Lincoln School Garden, 110 SE Alexander Ave, Corvallis
Description: The Healthy Youth Program is hosting a garden work party! We need volunteers to help weed and beautify the Lincoln School Garden. Enjoy a tour of the beautiful garden, followed by some fun and much-needed cleaning to get the garden geared up for summer. Refreshments and tools will be provided. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Truth x Vision Run 4 Their Lives 5K Fundraiser

Description: Truth x Vision is a non-profit organization founded in Oregon whose mission is to guide sustainable African development in a way that engages young people through socially conscious media and arts. Not only does Truth x Vision work to provide sustainable development solutions for the world’s poorest in Africa, but we operate in a way that is appealing and exciting to our young people here, giving them a real opportunity to get engaged with us and to start making a difference in the world.
On May 18th 2013 we will be hosting our first "Run 4 Their Lives" 5k event right here in Corvallis. We are looking for volunteers to help on the day of the event. Some activities that may be performed are:
- Signing in pre-registered participants
- Helping day of participants get registered Helping with set up and take down of the event area Pulling race numbers at the finish line
- We are also looking for volunteers to help spread word of the event over the next few months!
This is a great opportunity to get involved with a young organization and to find out more about how you can help guide sustainable development in Africa.

OSU College Forests Trail Work Day
When: May 18th, 2013; 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: Peavy Arboretum (8692 Peavy Arboretum Road Corvallis, Oregon 97331)
Description: We will be working on Intensive Management trail in the Arboretum. We will be maintaining these trails by adding gravel and brushing the vegetation out of the trail corridor. All equipment, tools and safety gear will be provided. The work will take place rain or shine, so be prepared.

Requirements: All participants must wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and bring a water bottle.
***Groups must coordinate at least 10 days in advance to ensure their participation. Both groups must participate together.***

Description: 5K Buddy for Girls on the Run Race, a 5K Buddy is a volunteer who supports the participant from the beginning to the end of the race. Volunteering help supports the Girls on the Run mission to inspire girls to be healthy, joyful and confident!

OSU College Forests Powder House Trail Work
When: June 1st, 2013; 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: Powder House Trail (500/560/582 Road junctions)
Description: We will be working on Powder House Trail with excellent views of the forest. Work will be accomplished mostly with power equipment. Some hand tool work will also be required. We are basically putting additional gravel on the trail to provide a more stable trail surface. All equipment, tools and safety gear will be provided. The work will take place rain or shine, so be prepared.
From Corvallis:
- Drive north on 3rd Street (which is highway 99W)
- Proceed northbound on 99W past Lewisburg (past stop light and gas station).
- Shortly after milepost 78 turn left onto Arboretum Road.
- Continue north on Arboretum Road approximately 3/4 mile to the entrance to Peavy Arboretum on your left.
- Stay to the left and follow signs to the field office.
- Drive past the field office and follow the “Volunteer” signs past the orange gate into the forest (maps will be available).

Girls on the Run 5K Race Volunteers
When: June 1st, 2013, Times vary by volunteer availability
Where: The 5K starts and ends at the Reser Stadium
Description: Girls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential learning program meant to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. The program combines physical training to run a 5K (3.1 miles) event at the end of the season with uplifting, self-esteem boosting workouts. The lesson for each practice encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.
June 1st is the end of season 5K for over 350 girls in Benton, Linn, and Lane counties. Volunteers are needed to help run the successful culminating event for these girls.

OSU College Forests & Benton County Extension and Outreach: National Get Outdoors Day Volunteer
When: Saturday, June 8th, 2013; multiple shifts (see below)
Where: Peavy Arboretum (8692 Peavy Arboretum Road Corvallis, Oregon 97331)
Description: The Oregon State University College Forests is hosting our largest event of the year and we are in need of volunteers to help make it possible. The event will take place Saturday, June 8th and is recognized around the nation as National Get Outdoors Day (or,” GO Day”), a day intended to promote healthy outdoor activity for families and their communities. Go Day will take place at Peavy Arboretum and will offer a number of outdoor activities, booths, and information to members of the Corvallis and surrounding communities.
In order to make this exciting day run smoothly, we are asking for volunteers to assist us with the following tasks: parking monitoring, photography of the event, set-up/clean-up, fishing, and miscellaneous duties. We ask that you commit to at least 3 hours. Shift times and locations vary and are available for up to 8 hours.
Details about shift times and tasks are provided below: [desired shifts are: 8-4, 8-1, 10-3, 11-4, or as specified below]
- Entrance monitor: 1 person is needed per shift to count cars/people as they enter, guide visitors to parking, etc.
- Parking lot attendants: 1 to 3 people are needed per shift.
- Photography: We have 4 cameras available, and therefore need 4 people per shift.
- Misc duties: These run throughout the day.
- Set-up / Clean-up: 5-10 people are needed morning and afternoon
- Fishing: Help is required between 10AM and 3PM.
If you’re interested, sign up quickly! The first 20 volunteers to commit to a 5-hour time block will receive a free T-shirt.

SOLVE Beach and Riverside Cleanup
When: Apply by June 28th to be event coordinator for September 28th
Where: Across Oregon
Description: SOLVE is excited to announce that we are accepting project applications for our Beach and Riverside Cleanup. Projects will take place on Saturday, September 28th, 2013, from 10 am - 1 pm. Teachers are encouraged to involve their students in service-learning activities any time between September 21 and October 5. SOLVE provides free project planning assistance and training, event flyers and pre-event publicity, cleanup project supplies, and more.
SOLVE supports projects that engage volunteers in Oregon and SW Washington in cleanup of litter and illegal dumpsites, invasive plant removal, native tree and shrub planting, and watershed maintenance and monitoring activities.
This is your opportunity to become a Beach & Riverside Cleanup Event Coordinator! Lets all dig in to take care of our parks, neighborhoods and waterways.

SAGE Garden Volunteer
When: starts Wednesday, March 20th until October (4:00 pm until dusk, around 6:30pm)
Where: Bruce Starker Arts Park, SW 45th Place & SW Country Club Dr (off of SW Philomath/OR-34W)
Description: This project will most likely involve preparing the garden for spring planting. The food that is grown is donated to local food banks and soup kitchens, providing fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables to families in the community who need them most. In 2011, the garden supplied almost 7,000 pounds of organically grown produce to agencies all over Corvallis
"You're invited to get involved in a fun volunteer opportunity with the Corvallis Environmental Center's Starker Arts Garden for Education (SAGE). SAGE is a 1-acre educational production garden located in Bruce Starker Arts Park in Corvallis (45th Place and Country Club Drive). The garden serves as a place to learn and grow food. We donate the food to local food banks and soup kitchens, providing fresh produce to families in need. In 2011, we donated 7,000 pounds of produce to hunger relief agencies in Corvallis.
Our work relies on volunteers to help plant, weed, and harvest the food at SAGE Work Parties. We'd like to invite you and/or your group to volunteer for a work party. Work parties are a fun, relaxing way to help your community. You can learn how food is grown, spend a day outdoors, have a picnic, and build teamwork, all while helping make a difference! We are happy to tailor the work party to match your interests. A typical work party starts with a tour of the garden, introductions, and time to answer questions. After that, volunteers will work as teams in the garden for just 1.5 to 2.5 hours.
Scheduling is very flexible. Individuals, families, and small groups are welcome to attend regularly scheduled work parties open to the public every Tuesday from 4-6pm (no scheduling required, just show up!). Or reserve a special spot just for your group or student organization! Group work parties can be scheduled for any Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon, or Saturday mornings or afternoons (except April), between March through October.

NAACP Rural Organizing Project
When: Summer preferred, but fall OK, 4 hours
Where: On campus
Description: Create a Kitchen Table Activism submission for the Rural Organization Project. The topic is K-12 Student Discipline. Submissions should make use of the following resources: Oregon Department of Education data, Oregon Leadership Network information sheet, and the Rural Oregon Project template. Submission will need to be written at a 6-8th grade reading level and, if accepted, will be placed on the ROP website.
The Rural Organizing Project (ROP) is a statewide organization of locally-based groups that work to create communities accountable to a standard of human dignity: the belief in the equal worth of all people, the need for equal access to justice and the right to self-determination.
