 Achieving
sustainability is impossible without collective action, according to
Alan Durning in his book This Place on Earth 2001. Gov.
John Kitzhaber echoed that belief in his recent executive order promoting
sustainability, which states in part, "A number of significant
steps will be necessary to achieve a sustainable future and will require
the participation of all Oregonians."
To put it another way, Durning and Gov. Kitzhaber agree that making
Oregon and the rest of the country sustainable will require all citizens
to work toward this common goal.
