Audrey Clare - Student Affairs Service Award 2006-07
Statement of Wonderfulness
In Celebration of
“Audrey consistently goes above and beyond in her work. She answers my many questions with patience, and provides phenomenal role modeling of what it means to be a consummate professional at Oregon State.”
“Audrey has been a phenomenal support for me and the other staff members on the East Side of campus. She has helped me to learn and grow in my position…without her I don’t feel that I would have had the same experience, and I know there is no way I would enjoy working for someone as much as I enjoy working for Audrey.”
This is just a smidgen of what was heard in support of Audrey Clare, the East Side Area Complex Director for University Housing and Dining, for a Student Affairs Service Award. In her work, Audrey is responsible for overseeing the buildings on the east side of campus, including McNary, Wilson, Callahan, and the four cooperative houses. This is not an 8-5 job by any means. Supervising in residence life is a 24-hour, 7-day a week job, which requires Audrey to be “on” at all times. Her work includes weekly supervision with professional staff members as well as with multiple student staff. She also provides professional development for her staff, “acting as a resource and helping her staff grow.” In addition, she responds at all hours to both person-related and facilities emergencies. One example I heard included something about helping with an overflowing toilet at 1 a.m., during which time she was “cool, calm, and collected, and was able to assist the student staff in swiftly getting the issue resolved…and she was really nice about it, which can be a challenge when you’ve been pulled out of bed in the middle of the night!”
In addition to her “regular” job duties, Audrey also participates in multiple programs and committees across campus – according to her colleagues and supervisees, they are “too many to count!” Just to name a few… Audrey has been a big part of helping the cooperative houses become more included in the general housing group, and helping co-op students feel welcome at residential education programs. She also oversees the annual Olympics which take place on the East side of campus; with her leadership, this program has won a UHDS award as one of the best programs of the year. Last but not least, Audrey serves on the parking committee, the alcohol work group, as a volunteer advisor for UCPS, and is very involved with student conduct, diversity and multiple other housing-related committees. Whew!
As you can see, Audrey is an extremely engaged, committed, and resourceful colleague at OSU. In all aspects of her position (and beyond!), Audrey’s colleagues describe her as compassionate, dedicated, optimistic, supportive, extremely helpful, and a truly amazing leader. Multiple supervisees described her as a fantastic role model for students, leaders, staff, and campus, and as the kind of supervisor and leader they hope to be someday.
Audrey, your UHDS and Student Affairs colleagues want you to know that we recognize and appreciate all you do, that we truly think you are wonderful, and thank you for making OSU the kind of place we want to be and remain. Congratulations!
